What is HPN?
Put simply, we offer out-of-the-box parenting support. With a local network of parents and peer support, you can meet new friends who are in the same season of life or learn some great tips and tricks for holistic living and mindful parenting! Besides the free peer support, HPN has evolved to offer perinatal doula and lactation services as well. We can truly support the WHOLE parent through every stage of their transition between pregnancy and elementary school. HPN has been undergoing an evolution since its inception in August 2011 and currently holds its place firm as the umbrella under which our direct services are offered.
What is the Network?
Holistic Parenting Network, LLC originated as a facebook group of friends who had their babies at similar times and were looking for more whole-life support than they could find at their local La Leche League meeting. Six years later, HPN has become the largest holistic parenting support hub in the region, with over 2,000 local parents giving and receiving advice on a host of issues, including but not limited to: relationship struggles, family challenges, health and wellness support for the family, social supports, play date arrangements, single parenting support, special support for parents of children with special needs, and more! Also linked is our local Breastfeeding USA chapter, which offers free peer breastfeeding support online and in-person. Click here to connect with local Holistic Parents.
What is a Postpartum Doula?
This can be a tough question to answer, because the job looks different depending on the needs of each family! Before having your baby, ideally, you and your doula would sit down and talk about what kind of support would work best for you during your postpartum. Sometimes that means the doula care for the baby while you nap, and fix you some nourishing meals. Other times it means that the doula will offer longer term breastfeeding support (as compared to a single consult. Imagine having breastfeeding support offered within your home for 10-20 hours, over a period of weeks?). Other times they'll teach you babywearing skills. Still other families want simple logistics backup, where you and your doula take care of household tasks in a tag team sort of way, almost like "sister wives." Emotional support in processing the birth, a trained eye to detect any potential perinatal mental health or developmental issues to get early referrals to the best local providers.... All of these things are within the scope of a postpartum doula. Click here for more information on doula services offered.
Breastfeeding Support Center of Western NY
HPN has finally opened a Lactation Counseling service site, at long last! After years of struggling to find the time to help all the families coming to her for help, Mary responded to demand by opening an office in the lower Elmwood Village which would more easily accommodate classes, workshops, and private lactation clients.
